Hyperfine Fields and Magnetic Moment Measurements on Radioactive Beams
نویسنده
چکیده
Hyperfine fields of highly-charged heavy ions carrying at least one electron are proving to be of considerable utility for magnetic-moment measurements on radioactive beams. The method has long been referred to as the recoil in vacuum (RIV) technique [1]. An overview of recent progress is given, covering some essentials of the free-ion hyperfine fields [2, 3], applications to moment measurements on radioactive beams [4–8], nuclear structure highlights, particularly in the region around doubly magic Sn, [4–8], recent results [9] on the enigmatic case of Te [10], and promising avenues for future work [11].

Free-ion hyperfine fields and magnetic-moment measurements on radioactive beams
The recoil in vacuum (RIV) technique for magnetic-moment measurements on radioactive beams is discussed with examples from the Sn region. Attention then turns to recoil in vacuum and the free-ion hyperfine fields of Se and Ge ions leaving carbon foils with velocities of about 5% of the speed of light. These notionally similar ions show unexpected differences which must stem from differences in ...
متن کاملHyperfine fields and magnetic structure in the B phase of CeCoIn 5
We re-analyze Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectra observed at low temperatures and high magnetic fields in the field-induced B-phase of CeCoIn5. The NMR spectra are consistent with incommensurate antiferromagnetic order of the Ce magnetic moments. However, we find that the spectra of the In(2) sites depend critically on the direction of the ordered moments, the ordering wavevector and the ...

The incommensurate spin -density –wave magnetism of Cr has attracted great interest since its discovery via neutron scattering. Although the existence of spin- density –wave has been confirmed by experiment but the calculations which have been carried out have not been able to predict the correct ground state magnetic phase for chromium yet. To predict the magnetic hyperfine field at nucleus ...
متن کاملEnhanced hyperfine magnetic fields for face-centered tetragonal Fe(110) ultrathin films on vicinal Pd(110)
The structure and hyperfine magnetic properties of epitaxial Fe ultrathin films on a vicinal Pds110d surface have been investigated by means of low-energy electron diffraction sLEEDd, reflection high-energy electron diffraction sRHEEDd and Fe conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy sCEMSd. LEED and RHEED provide evidence for initial pseudomorphic film growth. The RHEED determination of the i...
متن کاملNuclear Gamma Resonance Study of Alloy Systems
The Ir-Fe and Ir-Ni alloy systems were studied over the whole composition range by means of the nuclear resonance absorption of the 73 keV y-rays of 193Jr and of the 14.4 keV y-rays of 57Fe. The magnetic hyperfine field at the Ir-nuclei in Ir-Ni alloys decreases approximately linearly with the Ir concentration from — 460 kOe at 4.2 K in very dilute alloys to zero at about 20 at.-% Ir. This beha...
